🌍 From the Maasai Mara to the Ocean: Joy Is Living Her Dream

Some journeys start with experience.

Others start with a dream.

For Academy Graduate Joy, it was both.

After building her retail career in some of Kenya’s beautiful resort destinations, including the Maasai Mara, Joy dreamed of taking her skills beyond land and beginning a new adventure at sea.

Today, that dream is real. 🚢✨

From Preparation to Embarkation

Getting onboard took hard work, patience and preparation.

Before joining, Joy used the Cruise Retail Academy training and resources to learn more about ship life and prepare herself for the transition from land-based retail to working at sea.

And now, almost two months into her first contract, she is finding her rhythm, growing in confidence and embracing everything that comes with her new life onboard.

As Joy shared with us:

“The first few weeks were a big learning curve, but the preparation from Cruise Retail Academy really helped me. The courses on the website gave me a good understanding of ship life before I even stepped onboard, which made the transition much easier.”

Growing Every Day

Joy arrived with years of retail and guest-service experience, but a first cruise contract brings an entirely new environment.

New systems.

New products.

New colleagues.

Guests from around the world.

And a completely different way of life.

Rather than being overwhelmed by it, Joy has embraced the learning experience.

“Almost two months later, I’ve settled in, found my rhythm, and become confident with the system, products and guest interactions. I’m learning every day, enjoying the experience and growing in ways I never expected.”

And just look at that smile. 😁

From Dreaming It to Living It

Perhaps our favourite part of Joy’s update was how she described what this journey now means to her:

“From the Maasai Mara to the middle of the ocean, I’m no longer just dreaming it. I’m living it.”
